Xianguang Yang

Associate Professor, Jinan University, China

Xianguang Yang received his Bachelor’s degree in Optics from Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU) in 2012, and completed his Doctorate in Optical Engineering with the theoretical and experimental combination of nanowire and nanoparticle photonics at the State Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Materials and Technologies affiliated with SYSU in 2016 under the guidance of Prof. Baojun Li (Changjiang Scholar). He received National Postgraduate Scholarship in 2016. He became an Assistant Professor of the Institute of Nanophotonics at the Jinan University in 2016 and became an Assistant to the Dean since 2018, then promoted to Associate Professor in 2019. He has mentored 13 MS students and post-docs. His main research interests include photonics, plasmonics, nano-optics, detectors, optoelectronics and optothermal mechanisms, especially for fiber optical waveguide, which were supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Dr. Yang has published 4 Book chapters, and 30 peer-reviewed journal publications, such as Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, ACS Nano, Advanced Optical Materials, Nanophotonics, Nanoscale, ACS Photonics, and etc. He has been an Editorial Board Member of Optics in 2018 and to be a member for RSC Advances Reviewer Panel since 2020. In 2023, he has been appointed as guest editor of Nanomaterials (IF 5.3), managing the Nanostructured Materials for Photonic and Plasmonic Applications. In 2024, he has been elected as Nanoscale Emerging investigator. He is a member of American Chemical Society (ACS), Optical Society of America (OSA), Chinese Optical Society (COS) and Chinese Society for Optical Engineering (CSOE).

Mario FS Ferreira

Professor, Aveiro University, Portugal

Mário F. S. Ferreira is a Professor at the Physics Department of Aveiro University, Portugal. Between 1990 and 1991 he was at the University of Essex, UK, performing experimental work on external cavity semiconductor lasers and nonlinear optical fiber amplifiers. His research interests have been concerned with the modelling and characterization of multi-section semiconductor lasers for coherent systems, quantum well lasers, optical fiber amplifiers and lasers, optical sensors, soliton propagation, polarization and nonlinear effects in optical fibers. He has been the leader of the Optics and Optoelectronics Group of the I3N – Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanofabrication. He was the Guest Editor of four Special Issues of “Fiber and Integrated Optics” (Taylor & Francis): “Fiber Optics in Portugal” (2005), “Nonlinear Fiber Optics” (2015), “Optical Fiber Sources and Amplifiers” (2020) and “Quantum Communications” (2020), a joint Special Issue of “Optics Express” and “Applied Optics” (OSA) on “Optical Sensors and Sensing 2019”, one Special Issue of the “Journal of Nonlinear Mathematical Physics” (Springer) on “Complex Ginzburg-Landau Equation”, and two Special Issues of “Fibers” (MDPI) on “Optical Fiber Communications” and “Specialty Optical Fibers – Material, Fabrication and Applications” (2022), and and a Special Issue of “Fibers” (MDPI) on “Optical Fiber Communications” (2020) and “Characterization and Applications of Specialty Optical Fibers” (2025). He is Member of IEEE, a Senior Member and a Travelling Lecturer of both OPTICA (Optical Society of America) and SPIE - The International Society for Optics and Photonics, He served in various committees of OSA/OPTICA and of SPIE, as well as in the organizing and scientific committees of various international conferences. Actually, he serves also as an Associate Editor or as an Advisor Board Member of several international journals in the area of optics and photonics.
